This is my rundown of supplies for the Stage 2 of my ALT Phalloplasty surgery with Dr. Jens Berli at OHSU in Portland, Oregon. Supplies vary between stages, type of Phalloplasty, surgeon, and personal preferences, so this should be viewed only as suggestions rather than a set-in-stone list of what’s required.

If it has no price next to it, it’s because I either already owned these items before surgeries or had leftovers purchased for Stage 1. All prices in USD.

In hospital:

  • Mesh underwear – Brought 5, got 6 from OHSU, ordered 20 more – $14.57 /5 = $72.85
  • Kerlix gauze rolls, 4.5”, brought 26 rolls, got 8 rolls from OHSU, ordered 30 more @$14.95 /10 = $44.85

Supplies that I didn’t know I’d need:

  • Xeroform – ½ box, for Glansplasty. – I have 2 boxes at home, doh! Got some from OHSU.
  • 3M Coban self-adhering wrap, 1½”, for Glansplasty – I have 2 rolls at home, doh! Got some from OHSU.
  • Handheld shower head – Hotel only has a fancy rain shower head so I had to hand splash surgical areas to rinse off.

Often recommended things that I *didn’t* need:

  • Polysporin ointment, 1-Ounce Tubes, Pack of 3
  • Foldable reacher/grabber (brought it again, still didn’t need it!)
  • Catheter leg bags – 5 for $14.30
  • Medihoney – Bought more at $12.93, didn’t use it.

I used pretty much the same supplements as I did for Stage 1.

…with some exceptions:

1. I didn’t take any supplements that can cause blood thinning and contribute to bleeding for the first 36 days. These included:

  • Multi Vitamin – $9.48 (re: vitamin E content)
  • Turmeric / Curcumin $9.97 (anti-inflammatory)
  • Bromelain $9.58 (anti-inflammatory)
  • Royal Jelly with Ginseng $26.99 (Adaptogenic. I also did a 3 month course of Ginseng pre-op.)
  • Ashwaganda – $9.53 (adaptogenic)

2. Though I did two courses of antibiotics following surgery, I didn’t bother taking Lactobacillus because of this new research. I did however eat a lot of plain yogurt, miso sauerkraut and kimchi.

3. I added the following urinary health supplements to my regimen:

  • AZO Cranberry Pills – $11.57
  • D-Mannose – $14.52
  • Cantharis 200ck (Homeopathic, to prevent bladder infections.)

4. I had a Smooth Move tea each night before bed. 3 boxes for $17.46.
